Hotel laundry: three commercial dryers down, all three back in service.
A real commercial service call at a hotel in Miami Lakes. After a power surge, one dryer would not turn on, and two dryers next to it were also not working. Each dryer had a different cause, and all three were repaired with about one and a half hours of work.
Customer complaint
After a power surge, the dryer would not turn on.
A hotel in Miami Lakes contacted MSA Appliance Repair because one of its commercial dryers stopped working after a power surge and would not switch on at all. While our technician was on site, the hotel reported that two more dryers standing next to it were also not working.
In a hotel laundry, every dryer that is down slows the linen cycle for the whole property, so each machine was diagnosed separately instead of assuming one shared cause.
01
Dryer 1: power surge
Diagnosis found a blown fuse and a failed controller. The replacement part was purchased and installed the next day, and the dryer was back in operation.
02
Dryer 2: clogged duct
This dryer was not working because its duct was clogged. The duct was cleaned, and after that the dryer worked as it should.
03
Dryer 3: ignition
The ignition system's flame sensor was not detecting that the burner flame had lit. The replacement part was ordered and installed, and the dryer was back in operation.

Commercial dryer repair in a hotel laundry room.
Why this case matters: when several dryers in one laundry room stop working at the same time, they do not always share one cause. Here one failure was electrical, one was an airflow problem and one was in the gas ignition system. Diagnosing each dryer separately meant only the parts that had actually failed were replaced.
