Dishwasher Leaking Water

What to check when water appears under or in front of a dishwasher and when a leak needs prompt repair.

Safe first checks

Start here before scheduling service.

01Stop the cycle if water is actively escaping the appliance.
02Confirm the door closes fully and no utensil is interfering with the seal.
03Check for excessive suds or use of the wrong detergent.
04Look under the sink for obvious moisture around accessible drain connections without loosening them.

Safety note

If water is near electrical wiring or an outlet, stop using the dishwasher and disconnect power only if it is safe to do so.

When to call for repair

✓ The leak returns

✓ Water appears from beneath the machine

✓ Cabinetry or flooring is getting wet

✓ The dishwasher also will not drain

✓ An error or leak-detection code appears
